Goldfish seeds that are superior in quality and quantity come from hatchery activities. Carp hatchery activities can continuously meet market demand, so that they can generate profits from goldfish farming which is executed.

Therefore, you need to understand the stages of good seeding so as to produce quality seeds. This article will provide information on how to hatch goldfish.

Come on, read down!

Goldfish Hatchery Stages

In hatching goldfish, you need to know the stages of hatchery preparation so that the process runs smoothly.

Following are the stages of goldfish hatchery, you need to prepare:

  1. Main rearing pond, serves to store male and female goldfish.
  2. Spawning pool, serves as a vessel for male and female breeders to mate.
  3. Larval rearing pond, serves to maintain hatched fish larvae.
  4. Seed nursery ponds, serves as a place to raise the seeds of fish.

Goldfish Hatchery Techniques

After you know the hatchery stages, it's time for you to know the goldfish hatchery technique:

The following is a goldfish hatchery technique:

1. Parent Maintenance

  • The female and male parents are kept separately.
  • The broodstock are reared in ponds of still water with a density of 1-2 kg/㎡.
  • The feed given is in the form of pellets containing 28-30% protein.
  • Feeding dose 2-3% biomass weight/day.
  • Frequency of feeding 3 times / day.

2. Water Quality Requirements

One of the factors that support the success of hatchery is water quality. Come on, look at good water quality for smooth fish hatchery.

Table of Water Quality Requirements

Oxygen> 5mg/l
Brightness> 30cm

3. Parent Selection

The selected parent must not be disabled, have agile movements, and grow faster than the others. In order to maximize seed yields, the goldfish should be treated with special care and separated from other goldfish. The goal is to prevent disease and make it easier to treat.

Here's how to choose a goldfish parent that you need to know:

  • Females 2 years old and weighing > 2 kg.
  • The male parent is at least 8 months old and weighs 0.5 kg.
  • Females ready for spawning have sluggish movements, genital openings are red, slightly swollen, belly is enlarged (fat) towards the back, feels soft when touched, and often jumps up and down, especially at night.
  • Mature male gonads can be identified by gently and slowly massaging towards the genitals. Male fish sperm is white like milk.

4. Spawning

Spawning or mating is the process of fertilization in fish. Here are the goldfish spawning techniques:

  • Spawning containers in the form of hapa are placed in ponds or tubs.
  • Sow density during spawning 2 kg sows/4㎡.
  • The weight ratio of the female and the male parent is 1:1.
  • Prepare water with a height of 70-100 cm with a water flow rate set at 0.5 liters/second.
  • The eggs are attached using kakaban in the form of palm fiber which has been neatly combed and clamped with bamboo/wood.
  • The size of the kakaban is adjusted to the needs, generally 1.5 m long and 0.4 m wide.
  • The total or total parent weight used is adjusted to the needs of the larvae in the first nursery pond.
  • After spawning, the female and male parents are transferred to the parent rearing container.
  • The hapa that has been attached to the eggs is rearranged so that the position is neat and the eggs do not pile up on each other.
  • The eggs will hatch within 48-60 hours after fertilization at 28-30℃.

5. Larvae Care

A successful spawning process will produce quality carp larvae. You need to know how to care for the larvae so that they grow optimally. Here's how to treat goldfish larvae:

  • Kakaban removed 2-3 days after the eggs hatch.
  • Larvae aged 2-3 days can be moved to the first nursery pond that has been prepared.
  • Initial feeding is in the form of egg yolk suspension which is given 5 times per day (1 grain for about 100,000 larvae).

6. Nursery

Nursery is the process of enlarging seeds to a size that is safe for cultivation in enlargement media. The following is the process of raising goldfish:

  • Nurseries I to III are carried out in ponds equipped with filters at the entrance and exit of water (disposal).
  • Nursery ponds are prepared by tilling the pond bottom soil, drying, liming, fertilizing, filling with water, and conditioning the pond water.
  • Pond bottom soil processing can be done by plowing, tapping, and repairing pond bunds.
  • Drying is carried out for 2-5 days (depending on the weather).

7. Disease Control

Fish that are not cared for properly can easily get stressed. The impact of stress on fish is the emergence of disease. For that, it is needed disease control to minimize the risk of fish contracting disease.

Here are ways to control the disease:

  • Parasitic attacks can be overcome by using salt at a dose of 500-1000 mg/liter. Apply by soaking for 24 hours.
  • Bacterial attacks are treated with garlic extract at a dose of 5-10 mg/liter. Application with immersion for 24 hours.
  • Prevention of KHV virus attacks is carried out by providing a good environment, as well as providing immunostimulants (vitamin C and yeast) which are mixed with feed.

8. Harvest Goldfish Hatchery

The length of time required for the goldfish hatchery process, starting from the fish being spawned to nursery, is around 4 months. Next, the fish seeds are sold to farmers or raised. The need for seeds for enlargement cultivation is usually 100 grams per head.

How to harvest carp seeds is not difficult. Dry the pond slowly until the fish gather at the same point to make it easier for you to collect the seeds. Then, take the seeds using a fine net carefully so that the seeds are not injured. Transfer the fish seeds into a container filled with nursery pond water so that the fish are not stressed.

Tips for Successful Goldfish Hatchery

In order for the hatchery to run successfully, you need to know goldfish hatchery tips. When you want to do the goldfish spawning process, you have to make sure that the broodstock you choose is ripe. Apart from that, you also need to select the whole fish. The selected fish must be healthy, not disabled, scales neatly arranged, brightly colored, and not dull.

Broodstock must be given healthy and nutritious feed. The main feed can be in the form of pellets with a protein content of 30-35%. Other food additives given are corn bran or groats. Do not give feed with high fat content.

The amount of feed needed by the mother carp is around 2-4% of body weight per day. The frequency of feeding twice a day, every morning and evening. Breeders that have been mated can do another marriage every time they rest in the brood pond for 2-3 months.
